First Course
"A good teacher, like a good entertainer first must hold his audience's attention, then he can teach his lesson." - John Henrik Clarke
Last week we finished up our first career workshop. I was
amazed at how close the group became during the four days we were together. I
was also amazed in the development of the students of the students and also in
the development in my teaching. There were a couple of things I noticed about
teaching the workshop:- If you just talk at people, they lose interest real fast
- There is a fine line between controlling the class and killing innovative thinking for the students.
- Everyone has something valuable to share
- Always remember that the purpose of teaching is to help the students learn, not to impress them with how much you know and have them agree with you.
- The students want you to succeed as a teaching, nobody benefits if you fail.
- Keeping a class alive and thought provoking helps the students pay attention.
I loved it. I was always amazed at impact we had on the class. When I thought being from a different country and young would have been a hindrance our students kept commenting on how much they learned from not only the material but the way we held and presented ourselves. I'll miss this group for sure. They were great!
